Sepia Memories

by Danielle Elliot

Now that it is all over
and the bruises have
begin to fade
Now that the smell of your cigar
no longer lingers in my
sheets and night-dresses

Now that the constant sound of
Your Mistress -- Scotch
whom you loved most
of all no
longer echoes
through the
house

Now that you are dead and
buried and I no longer
wait in the darkness
of my room for your
footsteps in the hall

I can say,
I loved you, father,
And Goodbye.
